Welcome to the home page of the Maine Automobile Insurance Plan
The Maine Automobile Insurance Plan was established pursuant to Title
24A, M.R.S.A., Section 2325 dated January 1, 1970 for granting automobile
bodily injury and property damage liability, medical payments and physical
damage insurance to applicants who are unable to obtain such
coverage through the voluntary market.
Information pertaining to such things as eligibility criteria, extent
of coverage provided, establishing an effective date of coverage and rate
classifications can be found in the Maine Plan Manual.
Producers licensed by the Maine Bureau of Insurance to transact
automobile insurance business in the state of Maine and who are certified
by the Plan are eligible to submit applications to the Maine Plan. For
more details regarding the Plan's certification program, please refer to
the Plan Section entitled PRODUCER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM.
To be eligible for coverage, the applicant must certify that he/she has
attempted, but has been unable to obtain automobile insurance in the state
of Maine within the preceding 60 days. For a complete list of the
eligibility criteria, please refer to the Plan section entitled
ELIGIBILITY.
