ALABAMA, GEORGIA, MISSISSIPPI & TENNESSEE
AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE PLANS
AIPSO's SOUTHEAST REGION
SERVICE CENTER INFORMATION

Effective July 1, 2002, with the exception of the claims handling, all personal automobile insurance policyholder services for risks assigned through the Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi & Tennessee Automobile Insurance Plans will be processed in AIPSO's Southeast Region Service Center. Commercial automobile insurance policyholder services will continue to be processed by an appointed commercial servicing carrier.

What is the Southeast Region Service Center (SESC)?

  • The SESC was established to perform policyholder services on behalf of the subscribers.
  • Each Plan's Governing Committee approved the service center as a means of reducing costs to the companies receiving assignments. Companies not eligible to be excused or receiving a low volume of Plan applications find it costly to maintain a separate system for their Plan business.
  • With the introduction of the new Service Center, all dealings with Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi & Tennessee Plan customers such as insurers, consumers, producers, and regulators will be handled from AIPSO's Southeast Regional Office in Birmingham, Alabama. The SESC will handle all underwriting, accounting, and customer service functions. Its operations and processing services include, but are not limited to:
    • underwriting (ordering MVR's, CLUE reports, rate pursuit)
    • policy issuance and maintenance
    • premium billing and collections
    • policy renewals and cancellation notices
    • customer service
    • producer commissions and 1099 tax forms

How do we contact AIPSO's Southeast Region Service Center (SESC)

Consumers, producers, and regulators can contact the SESC by calling 1-800-301-6477 or (205) 967-2001. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Central Time.

How can Companies verify the most current coverage information?

The SESC has a unit that will verify what coverage might be in effect at the time of a loss. The companies can obtain coverage verification by calling 1-866-362-7372 (Ext. 3305; 3303; & 3302). Again, the Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Central Time.

What About Claims Handling?

The only service function not performed by the SESC is claims handling. The SESC will provide each Plan policyholder with the assigned company's toll free (or collect call) telephone number for reporting claims.

When a policy is issued at the Service Center, a policy number is assigned. The policy number will begin with the first letter of the applicable State and is followed by 9 digits. Sometimes assigned companies will change the policy number assigned by the SESC to one of their own. This may create confusion when an insured and/or producer attempt to file a claim and the assigned company cannot locate the Plan policy number. To alleviate confusion, for claims reporting purposes, the assigned company must immediately notify the insured and producer if it changes the policy number assigned by the Service Center to one of its own.
