Joint Underwriting Associations (JUAs)

A JUA is a pooling mechanism under which a limited number of companies act as servicing carriers. Producers submit applications directly to the servicing carriers, which issue and service the policies. JUA operating results are shared among member companies in proportion to their voluntary market business.

An exception to this procedure is found in the Michigan Automobile Insurance Placement Facility, in which agents submit applications to the Facility office. The Facility office then distributes the applications to the servicing carriers.
